Nish Gera is a director and screenwriter based in Madrid.
His most recent films are Arriba Beach (2025), an erotic thriller set on the Portuguese coast, and Opium Dream (2025), a documentary-experimental short. Earlier work includes MOTTA (2020), a portrait of the Brazilian artist Fabio Da Motta; Look Baba I’m Happy (2018); and Scar Tissue (2017), an Iris Prize finalist and winner of four festival awards. His films have screened at over 100 festivals worldwide.
Displacement, queerness and the sexual politics of our times are central themes in his work. He is developing his first feature, The Taj Motel, selected for Torino Film Labs.
Born in India, he has lived in Udaipur, New Delhi, Mumbai, New York City, Brussels, Berlin, London and Madrid. He speaks English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu, gets by in Spanish, and has enough French and Dutch to survive a dinner party. He is credited on some films as Nishchaya Gera.
